System Design Evaluation Ltd is an independent Technology Company. Our core business is the provision of impartial requirements management, assessment, design, development and safety management of platforms, munitions and weapon systems. We apply our systems engineering processes to assist our customers at any stage of product lifecycles, ranging from requirements definition to Safety and Suitability for Service trials.
Covering land, sea and air domains we provide technical support and advice to government agencies and industry. This ranges from assisting policy makers define capability needs to provision of technical assistance at operational level in R&D and procurement.
The extensive knowledge base, skills and experience of our multi-disciplined project teams enable SDE to fully support and populate the many processes that contribute to the CADMID cycle and Defence Lines of Development (DLOD) to support coherent delivery of capability to Front Line Commands.
Defence Systems and Services
SDE specialises in the provision of technical expertise across Weapon Ordnance Munitions & Explosive domains.
Our expertise covers large sections of the System Engineering process and the CADMID cycle. We have worked with both prime contractors and Government Agencies in many programmes to undertake tasks such as generating System and User Requirements, ITEA management, WOME expertise, Lethality Management, complete Error Budget analysis and Trials management & conduct.
We provide a wide range of scientific and technical advice on weapons, munitions & energetic materials augmented by a comprehensive Modelling and Trials Capability.
SDE intimately understands the complex nature of improving war-fighting capability and the need to consider the pan-DLOD impact when developing new equipment.
SDE provides safety and environmental management services for tri-service equipment, systems and platforms and have undertaken the majority of munitions Safety Case Reports (SCRs) for UK MoD.
This is achieved by combining the skills of our innovative design engineers with the experience of staff drawn from Ordnance, Munitions & Explosives (OME), Safety and Environmental Management backgrounds.
This allows the formation of strong and dynamic project teams, providing a rational and pragmatic approach to safety and environmental management including the provision of Independent Safety Auditor (ISA) support.
We have formulated many standards and developed safety and environmental management processes and procedures.
SDE offers a comprehensive trials service, for Ordnance, Munitions & Explosives spanning land, air and sea domains.
This includes the planning and management of trials plus the analysis of data and reporting.
Agreements are in place with a number of UK and overseas T&E facilities and the Company is also authorised to conduct firing trials on UK MoD Land Ranges.
Trials can be conducted utilising our suite of comprehensive and fully portable trials instrumentation and equipment. SDE also has significant experience in analysis of trials data to produce independent reports in support of safety cases, procurement programmes etc.
Our fully qualified trials team has extensive experience in undertaking trials across the complete range from simple Technical Trials though to complex Measures of Performance and Measures of Effectiveness programmes.
Design, Modelling and Simulation
System Design Evaluation offer a comprehensive range of Design, Modelling and Simulation services to assist rapid, cost effective engineering design, validation and problem solving.
This core capability is supported by specialist expertise and a cutting edge suite of commercial and bespoke software tools.
SDE has significant experience in the application of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) techniques, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Ballistic modelling, Multibody Dynamics simulation, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and System Performance & Effectiveness assessment, to support a wide range of engineering design, development and procurement programmes.
These advanced virtual prototyping tools have been used to provide robust evidence and facilitate informed and auditable decision whilst reducing the requirement for, often costly, time-consuming or impractical, Test and Evaluation activities.
